Reporting to the Commercial Lines Manager – Ontario, the Intermediate Underwriter is responsible for the development and successful execution of broker and territory level business plans for an assigned group of brokers in accordance with the regional commercial business plan for profitability growth, retention, and service standards. The Intermediate Underwriter will be required to visit brokers who represent Optimum Insurance Company in order to promote and present the Company’s commercial products and generate profitable growth and retention. They will be required to make risk selection decisions within assigned level of authority and develop productive and successful working relationships with assigned brokers. The successful candidate will be required to maintain an awareness of market trends, price levels, legal requirements, and case law applicable to commercial underwriting along with the ability to negotiate optimally to develop and maintain a profitable book of business.
Education and Work Experience
In order to meet the requirements of this position, the candidate must have post secondary education or comparable previous office experience.
Qualities and Aptitudes
The candidate should be recognized for their good communication skills (verbal and written), efficient keyboarding, and attention to detail. They must be a team player with a positive attitude.
