Avoid the congestion of downtown Vancouver and come be part of the BC Optimum West Team which is located in our branch office based out of Burnaby! This is a permanent full time Personal Lines Underwriter position and the successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent client service to our broker partners with a focus on growing a profitable portfolio of personal property business.

Specific responsibilities

• Review, analyze and underwrite risk submissions to determine acceptability
• Contributes to the development of excellent relationships with our brokers by providing advice and guidance
• Achieving individual broker office visit targets to promote Optimum West and provide product training
• Network and attend industry functions as needed
• Solid understanding of the broker distribution channel and the various tools/systems utilized by the broker
• Improve and maintain a profitable book of business by applying sound underwriting judgement in selecting new risks
• Efficiency in the use of policy administration systems for all policy transactions
• All other related tasks.

Education, Work Experience and Aptitudes

• Two years’ experience in a similar role
• Sound knowledge of policy wordings, coverage and underwriting procedures
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and negotiating skills
• Excellent client service and time management skills
• Completion or commitment to complete CIP/CRM designation
• Post-secondary education
