Description

The Assistant Vice President, Commercial Lines Underwriting promotes and implements a strategic vision that supports our long-term profitable growth, vision and objectives. The incumbent of this position, in collaboration with the Vice President of Underwriting, is responsible for defining the commercial lines underwriting philosophy, monitoring adherence, and determining product strategy and rates.

Specific responsibilities

• Anticipates industry trends and business opportunities by conducting financial analyses and analyzing data;

• Evaluates our lines of business and profitability across Canada as well as rates, retention and market conditions;

• Is responsible for results including loss ratio, growth and underwriting profits;

• Develops and implements action plans that maximize our operational proficiency, growth and profit;

• Liaisons with branch operations to effectively communicate changes and gather feedback;

• Prepares premium plan budgets;

• Works closely with Actuarial department on pricing review project to ensure profitable growth;

• Promotes a culture of customer intimacy with respect to our Quebec broker force;

• All other related tasks.

Experience and training

• Bachelor degree in a related field;

• 10 to 15 years of commercial underwriting;

• Five years leading a team;

• Actuarial designation preferred.
