Senior Advisor, Corporate Actuarial - Canadian Company

Mission

You will perform diverse and complex actuarial work related to policy liability calculations and analyses required to ensure the solvency of the company. You will be called upon to solve problems in a wide-ranging field and to propose, develop, and implement innovative solutions.

PRIMARY RESPONSABILITIES 

Actuarial calculations and analyses

  • Perform monthly and annual corporate work related to the calculation of technical provisions, solvency ratios, and other information required for financial statements, regulatory forms, and the Actuary's Report in compliance with applicable regulatory and actuarial accounting standards.

  • Monitor collateral needs for non-admitted reinsurance and produce the periodic report required by the regulatory authority.

  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget and continuously analyze differences between actual results and the budget.

  • Analyze the company's and industry experience studies to recommend appropriate modifications to the assumptions used in calculating contract technical provisions and other liabilities.

  • Review calculations and analyses performed by your colleagues and act as a resource for them regarding actuarial calculations and analyses (mentoring and team development).

  • Respond autonomously to client requests.

  • Produce documents required by auditors, reinsurers, rating agencies, and various regulatory authorities.

Professional development and process improvement

  • Stay informed about ongoing developments in regulations and accounting, actuarial, and tax standards.

  • Actively participate in assessing the impact of developments on the company's balance sheet and solvency, as well as on necessary organizational changes (processes, data, systems, models).

  • Conduct a thorough review of models and calculation methods to identify opportunities for efficiency and accuracy improvements; if necessary, propose new processes.

 

REQUIREMENTS / REQUIRED SKILLS

Experience / Education

  • University degree in actuarial science or in mathematics

  • FSA designation and seven years of proven experience, or ASA with a minimum of 10 years of proven experience in a similar position

  • Mastery of the insurance and/or reinsurance market

  • Knowledge of Canadian actuarial valuation standards

  • Very good command of French and English (company in Ontario), both spoken and written

  • Leadership in your field of expertise and innovative spirit

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Excellent programming and data manipulation skills (Excel, Access)

  • Knowledge of AXIS is an asset

  • Knowledge of IFRS 17 is an asset
